DIAMOND GUIDE
Each diamond is perfectly unique and has its exact characteristics determined by state-of-the-art technology. The Four Cs are the globally accepted standards for assessing the quality of a diamond. Each of the four Cs – carat, clarity, colour, and cut – contributes to the value and unique beauty of a diamond. For every step on these four grading scales, there is a slight but very significant distinction.
Carat is the standard mass measuring unit used to determine the weight of a diamond. 1 carat = 0.20 grams. Even a fraction of a carat can make a considerable difference in both the cost and appearance of the diamond.
Clarity refers to the absence of inclusions and blemishes in the diamond. The fewer internal and external characteristics, the more light will pass through the stone facets. Flawless diamonds are incredibly rare to find.
Diamonds are valued by how closely they approach colourlessness. The less colour in a white diamond, the rarer and more valuable it is. Fancy colour diamonds, such as pinks, yellows, and blues, lie outside this colour range.
The cut determines how the diamond interacts with light. It fuels the diamond’s brightness, fire, and scintillation. Therefore, the brilliance of a diamond largely depends on the cut quality, including symmetry and proportions.
